Supervision training

This three-day course provides the theoretical and practical guidance to support your supervisory role, whether it's a clinical or managerial role, or both.

What you will learn

We will look at aims and objectives of supervision, the role of the artwork and mutual expectations of supervisors and supervisees.

We will introduce organisational concepts to help develop an understanding of dynamics that impact directly on the clinical work and the supervision task.

Practical issues such as contract setting, implication of ‘duty of candour’ and the statutory framework will also be addressed. We will give an overview of the legislation that supervisors need to know to provide effective and safe supervision.

We will address issues and dynamics encountered when supervising trainees and the complexities that can arise in this work.

We will also introduce the basic principles of group supervision as this setting is increasingly used by employers.

By the end of the course you will have:

  • a better understanding of the aims and objectives of supervision
  • familiarity with different models of supervision
  • further clarity on the role of the artwork.
  • an overview of legislation supervisors need to know
  • useful skills to supervise trainees
  • a good grounding in group supervision
